10 reasons why you should switch from Internet Explorer 6

"Every so often, people ask me why they should upgrade to Internet Explorer 7, the newest version of the venerable Microsoft web browser. They're happy with Internet Explorer 6—it does what they want it to do and they're comfortable using it. Some are nervous about upgrading because they feel they don't have time to learn a new way of doing things. Others believe that because they only use their computers to check their e‑mail and visit "safe" sites, they don't need to upgrade. (...) For me, the most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world." (Sandi Hardmeier, Microsoft MVP)

10 reasons to switch from Internet Explorer 6:

1. Switch to a more secure browser.
2. Get a faster browser.
3. Web pages will look better.
4. Use a browser that it's not closely integrated with your operating system.
5. Try a browser that has native support for Ajax.
6. Open less windows by using tabs.
7. Get a search box without installing toolbars.
8. Get anti-phishing protection.
9. Web developers will thank you.
10. If IE6 is no longer a popular browser, developers will spend more time releasing new features.

Determine file size before downloading it

If you going to download a file from internet then you can find out its size before downloading only when it is mentioned on the download location else you have to start downloading then only you can find out actual size of a file.For most of the hi speed broadband internet users it doesn't matter much but for internet user like me who have slow internet connection which download bigger size data only during night or for night plan user this matters a lot since they can queue up bigger files to download during nights.

But if you want to know the actual size of file even before starting the download even though it is not mentioned on downloading site,Then there is a internet explorer plugin get file size [download] which checks the file size before downloading it and shows you the exact file size before downloading.

Get File Size will show you the date when the file was last modified, file type, server response time and estimated download time. Get File Size can also retrieve the dimensions of JPG, GIF, PNG and BMP images without downloading the whole image.

After searching a lot about this issue i found the solution of this problem.This all was happening because of Urlmon.dll.For resolving this issue you have to edit your registry and my advice is that take the back up of your system registry before editing it.

1.Open Notepad

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_PROTECT_DECOMPRESSION_FILTER_FROM_ABORT_KB942367]
“*”=dword:00000001

IE7 pro is a add on that your internet explorer must have.Add ons are not much familiar with internet explorer means we usually heard about add on for mozilla firefox but IE7 Pro is quite usefull in this case.

IE7Pro is a must to have add-on that will take your browsing experience with IE7 to the next level. The add-on has tons of useful and powerful features and it tempts me to move away from Firefox, my favorite browser.

This add-on has over 15 powerful features and are as follows:

* Tabbed Browsing Management
* Web Accelerator
* User Agent Switcher
* Webpage Capturer
* AD Blocker
* Flash Block

* Greasemonkey like User Scripts platform
* Support for User created Plug-ins
* Spell Check
* Inline Search
* Super Drag Drop
* Crash Recovery
* Proxy Switcher
* Mouse Gesture
* Tab History Browser

Brief overview of IE7Pro add-on

  • The super drag and drop features lets your submit the selected text to a search engine of your choice.
  • To configure the features of IE7Pro, you can either use the IE7Pro preferences in the tools menu to access some of the options or via the IE7Pro icon in the status bar of Internet Explorer.
  • Proxy switcher feature lets you switch between different proxy servers of your choice and availability.
  • IE7Pro lets you save screen shot of an entire page as an image. This is of one my favorite features in IE7Pro.
  • Ad blocker in IE7Pro blocks unwanted ads and makes your browsing experience better.

This makes me think if Microsoft doesn’t has enough people to create these features as defaults in browser or they just don’t have innovative thought process? Anyway!

To download IE7Pro, click here. Or, visit the website of IE7Pro or forum, in case you need some help.
