Format a USB drive in NTFS file system

When we format our pendrive then file system is by default FAT or FAT32. Windows automatically select FAT file system to format a pen drive and doesn't provide the option to format the pendrive in NTFS file system but you can easily format your pendrive in NTFS file system by following tweaks.

1.Plug in your pendive and right click on the my computer icon on the desktop and select manage
2.Now computer management window will open now select device manager
3.In device manager you will find your pendrive under disk drives (expand disk drive ) , go to pendrive properties by right clicking on it.
4.Now move to policies tab and select the second option "optimize for performance " and click ok



5.Now when you will format your pendrive by right clicking on it, then you will find NTFS, FAT32 and FAT under the file system.Select the NTFS to format your pendrive in NTFS format.

Can not use add or remove programs

2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Uninstall
3. On the right pane, look for DWord NoAddRemovePrograms
4. Change its value to “0” to disable it
5. If you don’t see this DWord you can create it as well, because when it is not created, it means it is not defined. So its always better to define it.

It is always advised that you use good antivirus or spyware software to protect your system because every time you can't revert the virus action.You can also create a antivirus test file to check the status of your anti virus program.

How to recover important files from CHK files

First of all what are CHK files: whenever you run a disk scan and repair tool, such as ScanDisk or ChkDsk (depending on your operating system), the default action when finding errors on the hard disk (such as invalid clusters) is to save the affected files as a .CHK file, thus "repairing" the error.These .CHK files are referred here as CHK files.This is about CHK files but the question is how to retrieve the important data from these files ?

Whenever the system crashes, Scandisk or Chkdsk utility runs and recovers any files or chunks of data which may have been lost as a result of the crash. Since every recovered file has .CHK extension, you'll not be able to find the file type. You cannot distinguish if the file is graphic file(like .jpg) or a word document (.doc) or any other type of file.


These recovered files may contain some important data, so it advisable to check the content of these files before deleting them. This is where CHK-Mate [ Download ] comes in. CHK-Mate is a freeware which helps in identifying the type of the recovered files.

CHK-Mate will scan the contents of these recovered files and will identify their file type. Once the contents are recognized (for example a GIF file), it will automatically copy the existing file as new file with the right extension (Filexxx.chk -> Filexxx.gif). Now you'll be able to open the file using the associated program.

If it fails to recognize the file type for a particular file, you can still extract all the readable text from the CHK file and save it in some other file.

By default CHK-Mate recognizes the files of JPG, GIF, ZIP, CAB, EXE, DLL, OCX, WRI, BMP, DOC, PPT, XLS, PDF, HTM(L), WAV, MID, AVI, RAR, TIF and MP3 format. You can further add more file types in it.

My friends,their blogs and future of blogging in indian engineering colleges

Most of Tech Buzz(techinnews) readers who have visited my profile knows about me that i am an engineering student in northen india, presently recruited in Wipro technologies in campus selection. My blog tech buzz is already a year old and has almost 5k visitors a month.Though this is not a big amount but this is satisfactory for me because i know the conditions in which i was doing blogging.

As you can see in my initial days the frequency of posting was very less which was because of the internet connection in my town.At the time when this blog was started i was having a 56Kbps internet connection which makes it difficult to post regularly and it also consumed lots of my time but now a days situation is changing and i have got a broadband connection in my town.This has increased my posting frequency and quality as now i can read more in less time.

Almost every indian city and town is going to get a broadband connection which is making the use of internet popular in india.Though blogging is relatively a new concept for indians but popularity and success of bloggers like amit agrawal has inspired a lot of people to do blogging. Even i have noticed a change in my engineering college about the blogging.

My friends are devoting a lot of time and energy in blogging now a days as they too have a broadband connection in their hostel rooms.Though their blogs are in initial states like mine but their growth rate is appreciable.Here is the description of blogs of my friends.

1.Techstyro:This blog is from himanshu agrawal.(He is class topper too).He has shown keen interest in blogging after getting a internet connection.His blog is all about technology and is going fine now a days.He has almost hundreds of articles in 2-3 months.

2.Technogarage:This blog belongs to Jatin arora.His blog is relatively new but his initial articles are fabulous and getting good response.

3.Trickstotrick:This one is from Harsh Tripathi.Amount of his posts are relatively low.He explains this in his own words "i focus on quality".

4.Tech2tech:This blog is most popular among our blogs.This is from shitu from mathura.He got a broadband connection a year ago which reflects in his blog.His good work has inspired all of us to do blogging.

This is just a simple list of bloggers from our college or better to say from our class.They all are engineering students and growth of broadband is reflected in their work.

A bot cracked Microsoft live captcha in just 6 seconds

I am sure most of you are aware of Captcha (Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart ) if not then CAPTCHA is the name given to the distorted, scrambled characters that many Web services require users to decipher and type in to create a new account; the tests are meant to block automated account registration by spammers and malware authors.You can find the world's most complex CAPTCHA here.

Here are the technical details of the Captcha that broke the Microsoft Live email id registration form.Actually this process enables the hacker to register as many as required email id's to send his/her spam within a very short time period.Most of the hackers prefer the Id's of Gmail, yahoo, and Msn because it is hard to mark Ids of these domains as Spam Ids by anitspam tools.

According to the experts,this Bot has relatively less response time compared to the old ones. Response time means how long it takes the program to grab a CAPTCHA image, analyze it and return with the correct code.

One in every eight to 10 attempts to create a Live Hotmail account is successful meaning that the success rate is 10% to 15%. However, the rate is actually meaningless, since the bot will continue to try to create accounts using a predetermined list of account names until they're all registered.This bot starts sending Spams from the registered IDs immediately.Now its up to Microsoft to detect this bot and remove all those email Id from their database.

How to start your web browser without addons

If your recently installed add on is causing the improper behavior of your Web browser then it is better to use your web browser with out add ons.By this way you can find out whether the problem lies in the add on or any other thing was responsible for that improper behavior of your web browser and most important thing about add ons is this that you should avoid add ons while performing online transaction.

Here is the method of using web browsers without add ons.

For Internet Explorer:

• Go to Start > Run
• Type iexplore -extoff
• Press Enter

For Mozilla Firefox:

• Go to the Run dialog by going to Start > Run
• Type firefox -safe-mode
• A window will popup asking things that you want to disable or reset (eg: reset/disable bookmarks/toolbars, etc.)
• Give the right choices, and press ‘Restart’ for the changes to take effect

Or you can just go to start menu and you will find out the safe mode option of Mozilla FireFox (see image).

Secret word caused the panic in airline

If you have watched james bond movies then you must know the impact of secret words.They are designed for the ease when situation is not favorable.They can change the situation dramatically .If they are used properly they are going to make a rainbow but if used improperly they can either harm you or situation can become worse.Here is the case of an airline.

An alert at Melbourne Airport on Friday night was caused when a Qantas Airlines pilot accidentally used the secret word for a hijacking when communicating with the tower. The pilot used the word shortly after the plane took off.

Upon landing, the plane was "quarantined" and searched for about 20 minutes before passengers were allowed to disembark.

I'm assuming the code word isn't an easy one, so I'm not sure how exactly this happened - and naturally they're not going to tell us the word.

Reduce the noisy vibrations of your hard drive

Most of the time we can hear the noisy vibrations from our system and most part of this is from our hard drive.As most of us are aware of working method of hard drive so it is not hard to guess how hard drive vibrations contribute to the system noise.

Reapir windows vista's "BOOTMGR is missing problem"

If your system is booting from Microsoft windows vista,Then you might get the "BOOTMGR is missing" error which actually comes as the reason of many problems like another operating system and hardware issues (This is common to me) as whenever you insert any other hard disk into your system or many other unknown issues causes this problem.

Yes it true.I am not sure about how many applications of Google are developed using Microsoft's technology but do you know that Google's social networking web site Orkut.com is powered by Microsoft technology? We just learnt that Orkut is powered by its rival company's ASP.NET technology. All the page URLs of Orkut ends with the extension .aspx, which is file extension of Microsoft ASP.NET web pages.

How to backup and restore windows registry using DOS

Though most of the software that are going to make any change in registry allows you to back up your systems registry before making any change in it because if any thing goes wrong during the process and makes the system unstable then you can use the back up and can make your system stable.

But do you know the Windows Registry is never backed up and restored whenever system restore point is created or restored? The default export registry function in Registry Editor doesn't save all the registry settings (example, the SECURITY settings). Since they are backed up, they can't be restored.

It has also become impossible to copy the necessary files, now called "hives" and usually named DEFAULT, SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE,SYSTEM in the SYSTEM32\CONFIG folder, to another location because they are all in use by the OS.

In short you cannot restore the settings since the exported file is only merged in the Registry and the previous settings are not deleted which have been added since the export.



So if you want more control over this issue then you can use ERUNT. It is a freeware and can restore the Registry even from MS-DOS. It runs on most of the Windows platform including Windows Server 2003, but doesn't supports Vista.

It can restore the registry in Windows 9x/Me/NT/2000/2003/XP and MS-DOS. It also includes a Windows Registry optimizer. To ensure proper operation of ERUNT, you should be logged in as a system administrator.

You can also block your registry editor and don't let the suspicious software touch your system registry and a simple advice to all readers that always take backup at regular interval of time because precautions are always better.
