Girlfriend,papa and GTA

Snippets of actual conversation during the last one week, reported verbatim between writer (Preeti Shenoy) and her son.

This was between me and my 10 year old son, after watching jaane tu ya jaane na.We were driving home, after dropping my daughter at her dance class. I was concentrating on the road and nodding, only half listening

“Mom.”

“Ummm”

“Having a girl friend is no fun. I don’t want to have a girl friend.”

“Why?”

“So boring. If she cries you have to console her and keep pacifying her. Ugh. I would rather play my GTA.”

What could I say to that?! I just smiled. After two minutes—

“Mom”

“hmmm?”

“Which one would you prefer—a boy friend or Internet?”

“I would prefer a husband actually. Not a boy friend. Boy friends can ditch you easily. Husbands usually stay around.”

“More than the Internet?”

“Well—yeah. Internet cannot take you out, or cuddle you, or buy things for you or tell you things like you are pretty or you smell good.”

The Khiladi Factor on indian television

Formula for a successful reality show? Simple - Hire a celebrity. But not just any celebrity, a Bollywood superstar. Really, it’s that simple provided you have the monetary means to do so.

And to mark their entry into the competitive Indian television industry, COLORS has managed to just do that. Box-office action hero, Akshay Kumar is all set to make his small parda debut with reality show - Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi. If I am not mistaken, this is basically a revival of desi-Fear Factor, which once upon a time was aired on AXN and hosted by what’shisface Mukul Dev.

Personally speaking I think roping in stuntman Akki baby was a smart move the by channel heads. However I would have preferred to watch regular junta as contestants rather than the chosen 13 wannabe bimbettes. Seriously, one look at the names and you will get what I mean.

Yaana Gupta, Aditi Govtrikar, Pooja Bedi, Sonali Kulkarni, Anita Hasnandani, Meghna Naidu, Tapur & Tupur Chatterjee, Nethra Raghuraman, Anjana Sukhani, Dipannita Sharma, Vidya Malvade and Urvashi Sharma.

Clearly the folks at Endemol India (Production House) are being lead on by the Music Channel trend - greater skin show better TRPs. I mean other than this I really don’t see the reason why the above mentioned women were chosen for the launch series. So going by the usual reality show norms, one can expect - cribbing, shrieking, sympathy seeking and (hopefully a hell lot of) bitching.

Bollywood now goes to Hollywood

Bollywood has always been the step child of Hollywood. Not only did it get its inspiration (read copies) from hollywood movies, it got its acting style from hollywood as well. Dev Anand was called the Cary Grant of Mumbai while Aamir is the Tom Hanks. Aishwarya and Abhishek are called Abhiwarya to keep up with the Brangelina nomenclature while Kareena and Saif want to be the Beckham couple.

The step child although has been very popular in non-western world. How many times have we had Chinese, Russians, Pakistanis or folks from the Middle East talking about Raj Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty or SRK and watching movies like DDLJ or Veer Zaara? So it was just a matter of time that we started seeing more and more of Bollywood in Hollywood. Here is to catalog the journey of Bollywood to the City of Angels.

1. Satyajit Ray - Word's can't describe Ray's brilliance. I sometimes wish I knew how to speak Bengali and was born in the era that Ray was depicting in his movies so I could understand all the nuances of his stories. The most talented director-writer that Indian and Bengali cinema have ever produced. Pather Panchali, Apu Trilogy to the hindi movie Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Ray left his mark on Indian cinema and has been an inspiration for a lot of upcoming directors like Rituparno Ghosh and Aparna Sen. Ray also co-wrote a story "The Alien" for Columbia Productions which never got made. The AMPAS awarded Ray an honorary Oscar in1992 for Lifetime Achievement. He got the award a few weeks before he died.

Cuil: Another search engine to compete Google by ex googler

Just weeks after the last highly touted Google challenger, Powerset, was snapped up by Microsoft, a new one is launching tonight. Cuil (pronounced “cool” and previously sporting an additional “l”), boasts a Web index three times the assumed size of Google’s (though I’m not aware of Google admitting to a particular index size lately), a management team with an impressive pedigree (several people from Google), a different set of algorithms that in part analyze the content of pages, and a radically different presentation of search results.

I haven’t had much chance to check it out, since it just launched, but a few searches I tried tonight do provide intriguingly relevant results in an interesting, magazinelike format. Before I opine on this, however, I’m going to spend a few days trying it out in more depth.

UPDATE: A number of people, including a colleague , are experiencing periodic outages of the service, receiving messages on the site that say “Cuil servers are running a bit hot right now.” It’s working for me. But outages like this aren’t a good sign for a long-planned service right out of the gate.

Sleepless nights 'could lead a man to diabetes'

Suffering from insomnia? It is time that you consult a doctor, for a new study has found that men who have sleepless nights are at a high risk of developing diabetes.Researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden have based their findings on an analysis of over 5,000 middle-aged men and women for a period of ten years, British newspaper the 'Daily Mail' reported.

In fact, according to the researchers, the risk of contracting Type 2 diabetes is actually double in men. The link with the most common form of diabetes, held firm even after taking factors such as weight, smoking and exercise into consideration.

In the study, the participants, none of whom had diabetes at the start, filled in questionnaires about levels of stress. They were told symptoms included insomnia, apathy, anxiety and fatigue. Analysis showed that the most stressed-out men were more than twice as likely to develop Type 2 diabetes.

I don’t want to work with Salman Khan: Katrina

Salman and Katrina’s romance was going through a rough patch already as the actor, reportedly, had objections to the lady’s choice of films and her co-stars, and now the beau’s spat with Shah Rukh has given a final blow to their relationship. Industry sources say Katrina is in no mood to forgive Salman for his behaviour at the actress’ birthday bash which received unwanted media attention.

Reports reveal that after the actor’s fight with the King Khan, Sallu has been trying really hard to woo Katrina and get the love story back on track. But Katrina has got so irritated over his flattering attempts that she has stopped talking to him.

A well-placed source has revealed, "Katrina is blaming Salman for the entire episode. The lady believes that Salman, being the host of the evening (at her birthday), could have handled the situation more sensibly.”

Katrina seems to have grown over Sallu as the actress recently said that she doesn’t want to work with the actor anymore. The lady, however, justified her statement saying that she would now like to be paired with actors of her age.

So after the Priyanka-Harman break-up rumours, grapevine has it that one of the hottest couple in Bollywood, Salman and Katrina, is heading for splitsville. Poor Sallu seems to be losing his love yet again!

Now warning over blood-taking method

People who take blood have been warned not to get the patient to tightly clench their fist during the procedure.UK researchers who examined 200,000 blood test results found clenching then relaxing the fist could raise potassium levels, potentially confusing results.

Raised potassium levels can indicate kidney or heart problems, the Annals of Clinical Biochemistry study said.A UK expert said clenching was an outdated practice and staff taking blood should not ask patients to do so.

'Hit or miss'

Vanessa Thurlow, a biochemistry expert and co-author of the report, first noticed a problem when GPs were questioning test results for a small number of patients. When she retested them, their potassium levels were normal - but they had all started to clench their fists before the test. Two British women try to open door mid-flight

A plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Germany after two British women tried to open a cabin door mid-flight, police have said. The women, aged 26 and 27, were drinking heavily and had to be held in their seats by security staff until the plane landed in Frankfurt.

They were arrested and released after two hours, Frankfurt police said. The XL Airways plane was flying from the Greek island of Kos to Manchester when Wednesday's incident happened. An airline spokeswoman said the women were thought to have been smoking in the plane's toilet, and were suspected of bringing their own alcohol on board.

She said they had started to swear at and threaten staff who refused to sell them any more alcohol from the bar.The women had then said they wanted to open the door to get "some fresh air" into the plane.

"Their language was totally unacceptable, as was their behaviour. They were very abusive and threatening," the spokeswoman said."We won't tolerate this sort of behaviour. The cabin crew did an excellent job and were very professional."Reuters news agency reported that the 26-year-old woman tried to strike a flight attendant with a vodka bottle.

The incident happened at an altitude of about 10,000m (32,808ft) while the plane was flying over Austria.Hartmut Scherer, a spokesman for police at Frankfurt International Airport, said the captain had thought the best option would be to make an unscheduled stop in Frankfurt and remove the women from the plane."Someone from the security held them in their seats until the landing," he said.

How to plan a party in less than 60 minutes

Everybody knows at least one... those people who show up unannounced for a quick visit. You can't just kick 'em out, but you can be prepared!

1) Cheese Please
Pre-cut three different types of cheese. Some favorite recommendations are the always tasty Brie, Fontina, and Gouda. These can be served with wheat crackers and a dish of dijon mustard. You can even spice up the display with grapes and strawberries. Cheese and fruit is easy and goes perfectly with a simple bottle of wine.

2) 5 Layer Dip It
You can always serve chips and salsa, but why do that when you can make a simple 5 layer dip? Simply spread these 5 ingredients on a dinner plate in order:
  • 1 can Re-fried beans (Option: low-fat vegetarian)
  • 8 ounces sour cream (Option: fat free)
  • Medium-heat salsa
  • Shredded cheese (Option: pre-shredded in a bag. Low fat Mexican blend)
  • Chopped olives (They come in a small can pre-chopped)
Make it all low fat and no one will ever know.

3) Finger Foods
Strangely enough, people can't get enough of mini-pickles and black olives. Put these in a tiny white dish in the middle of your table, and they'll be the first to go.

5 Reasons why your man might cheat

When a high-profile man is caught with someone other than his wife, it's enough to get the collective voice of women asking a whole bunch of why questions. Why do men cheat? Why can't they control themselves? Why do they have to pay for it? The answer may seem simple at first (if he's not being satisfied at home, he'll roam the neighborhood). But the reasons are a little more nuanced than that.

Some guys are simply serial cheaters - think about the trail of rumors that followed Bill Clinton into the White House. But other guys seem like upstanding citizens until wham, bam, thank you ma'am, they show exactly how low they're willing to go. What is it, then, that triggers a normally faithful man to cross the line from being committed to breaking trust, from home cooking to ordering out?

1. Power (or Cash)
It's not to say that entry-level men who make minimum salaries don't cheat, but it's also pretty clear that powerful men with the means to withdraw hefty sums of cash (for hotels, gifts, prostitutes) are often candidates. It's not just because they have more options; it's also because they think their invincibility in the office will also extend to their private lives, which they assume will remain private no matter how high-profile they may be. Arrogance is a form of blindness, after all.

2. A Sudden Change in Status
Maybe your guy isn't a celebrity, but has he gone from middle management to senior exec lately? Simply making the leap from corporal to captain can put a guy in a difficult spot - he's suddenly separated from his office crew, facing challenges at work that you may not relate to, and looking for someone to tell his woes to - even if it costs $1,300 to get her to keep quiet and leave after he's seemingly unburdened himself.

Some really interesting facts about Google by Marissa Mayer

As most of us knows about Marissa Mayer who is Vice President of Search Product and User Experience at Google. She described some interesting facts about Google, its origin, the ways it works and how they look for feedback.

1.The basic reason the Google home page is so bare is due to the fact that the founders didn't know HTML and just wanted a quick interface. Infact it was noted that the submit button was a long time coming and hitting the RETURN key was the only way to burst Google into life.

2.Due to the sparseness of the homepage, in early user tests they noted people just sitting looking at the screen. After a minute of nothingness, the tester intervened and asked 'Whats up?' to which they replied "We are waiting for the rest of it". To solve that particular problem the Google Copyright message was inserted to act as a crude end of page marker.

3.One of the biggest leap in search usage came about when they introduced their much improved spell checker giving birth to the "Did you mean..." feature. This instantly doubled their traffic, but they had some interesting discussions on how best to place that information, as most people simply tuned that out. But they discovered the placement at the bottom of the results was the most effective area.

4.The infamous "I feel lucky" is nearly never used. However, in trials it was found that removing it would somehow reduce the Google experience. Users wanted it kept. It was a comfort button.

5.Orkut is very popular in Brazil. Orkut was the brainchild of a very intelligent Google engineer who was pretty much given free reign to run with it, without having to go through the normal Google UI procedures, hence the reason it doesn't look or feel like a Google application. They are looking at improving Orkut to cope with the loads it places on the system.

6.Google makes changes small-and-often. They will sometimes trial a particular feature with a set of users from a given network subnet; for example Excite@Home users often get to see new features. They aren't told of this, just presented with the new UI and observed how they use it.

7.Google has the largest network of translators in the world

8.They use the 20% / 5% rules. If at least 20% of people use a feature, then it will be included. At least 5% of people need to use a particular search preference before it will make it into the 'Advanced Preferences'.

9.They have found in user testing, that a small number of people are very typical of the larger user base. They run labs continually and always monitoring how people use a page of results.

10.The name 'Google' was an accident. A spelling mistake made by the original founders who thought they were going for 'Googol'.

11.Gmail was used internally for nearly 2years prior to launch to the public. They discovered there was approximately 6 types of email users, and Gmail has been designed to accommodate these 6.

12.They listen to feedback actively. Emailing Google isn't emailing a blackhole.

25 Visionaries Who Created Empires From Virtually Nothing

Some of the greatest fortunes and empires in history were created by people who started with nothing. Today, we celebrate 25 of these iconic figures - businessmen, technology entrepreneurs, even celebrities and athletes - by recalling the tales of their rise to glory. Don’t feel bad if your favorites aren’t on the list, this is just a glimpse of the many visionaries we’ve seen throughout history and there are countless others who also deserve attention. While each of them took a slightly different path to financial greatness, virtually all of them started from very humble beginnings. In no particular order:

1.Henery ford:It’s tough to think of a man who carried the torch of business further than Henry Ford. Ford became famous for pioneering the assembly line and in the process, becoming the first man to successfully mass produce automobiles. Amazingly, Ford jump started the Ford Motor company with virtually none of his own money. As ‘Venture Capital Sources’ explains, Ford “raised a nominal sum of money from friends for initial working capital purposes. He then proceeded to cleverly negotiate deals with his suppliers that let him purchase parts on credit.

This in turn motivated him to sell his cars quickly - at a profit - so as to repay his suppliers. After years of diligently reinvesting those profits back into the business, Ford Motor was an industrial giant - and its creator was forever immortalized as a business legend.

2.John Rockefeller:John Rockefeller is the business titan behind Standard Oil. After scratching and scrimping to buy his first oil refinery in 1862, he was already a dominant force in the industry by the 1870’s. From there, he almost single-handedly revolutionized the mass market for oil. By offering discounts to the railroads that carried his oil cross-country, Rockefeller was able to, in turn, sell it to customers for low prices that were previously unheard of. This helped establish Rockefeller’s legacy as one of America’s earliest business heroes, and he is still celebrated for his “ability to refine crude oil to produce kerosene and other products better, cheaper, and in greater quantity than anyone thought possible.”

3. Andrew Carnegie:Often referred to as the “king of steel”, Andrew Carnegie did for steel what John Rockefeller did for oil. His work in founding and operating U.S. Steel has earned him the reputation as the second wealthiest man in history. But long before that, Carnegie set to work as a lowly telegrapher in the 1850’s. By the 1860’s, his investments in railroads, bridges, and oil derricks (combined with a lucrative side job as a bond salesman. propelled him to build U.S. Steel into an enduring empire.

In the 1890’s, after much work and toil, Carnegie’s was the “largest and most profitable industrial enterprise in the world.” By the time he sold his company to J.P. Morgan in 1901, Carnegie was ready for a much-deserved retirement filled with generous philanthropy and charitable giving.

4. Thomas Edison:While Thomas Edison is best known for inventing the modern electric lightbulb in 1878, he was one of the fathers of the modern electrical grid (Nikola Tesla was the other). The impact of this innovation has been staggering. Prior to the electrical grid, the only available lighting was sunlight during the day and gas-powered lamps at night. In 1882, however, Edison took the world by storm, introducing one of the first commercial electric grids in the world. As the Objective Standard observes, “within fifty years of Edison introducing the electric grid, gas light was all but forgotten, and electricity emerged as the power source for the masses.”

Like Andrew Carnegie, Edison got his start as a telegraph operator, gradually working his way up to more rewarding and personally satisfying projects.

5. Warren Buffett:Warren Buffett is one of only two living men who can truthfully boast a larger fortune than Bill Gates. (In fact, the two are now teaming up on the largest charitable giving project in history.. He generated his larger-than-life $60 billion net worth by becoming one of Wall Street’s sharpest and most successful investors. His secret, as William Grieder writes in his book “The Soul of Capitalism” is that Buffet “stays close to his capital.” That is, he will not invest unless he personally meets with the top executives and completely buys into their business strategy.

This simple yet proven philosophy has served Buffet well, propelling him to previously unimaginable heights of wealth creation.

The 10 most extravagant weddings ever

1. Liza Minnelli and David Gest (March 17, 2002)
Cost: £1.8 million.
The Oscar-winning actress’ wedding was a real cabaret, with fleets of black limousines sweeping guests to the Marble Collegiate Church where Minnelli (56) and Gest (48) tied the knot in true Manhattan style. Gest, who compulsively collects memorabilia of Minnelli’s mother, Judy Garland, wed the actress in an extravagant ceremony orchestrated by world-famous wedding planner Preston Bailey. The wedding was attended by hordes of celebrities including Michael Jackson as best man and Elizabeth Taylor as maid of honour, who enjoyed a twelve-tier wedding cake and sixty-strong live orchestra. One bridesmaid described the event as “the night of 1,000 facelifts.”

2. Princess Elizabeth Windsor (later Queen Elizabeth II) and Prince Philip (November, 20 1947)

Cost: unknown
The magnificence of the royal wedding, with its Norman Hartnell dresses and nine 400lb wedding cakes, was frowned upon by some quarters in the frugal atmosphere of post-war Britain, although ingredients for the main cake were in fact a gift from the Australian Girl Guides association. For the rest, the splendour was a welcome break from the privations of a ration-book economy. Thousands turned out on to the streets to cheer for the princess and her new husband, who King George VI gifted with the titles Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich for the occasion. In the interests of economy, some officials proposed an elaborate fireworks display in order to make use of the “surplus explosive chemicals” left over from the war.

3. David Beckham and Victoria Adams (July 4, 1999)

Cost: £500,000

The multi-millionaires lovingly known to the world as “Posh ‘n’ Becks” wed at Luttrelstown Castle in Ireland in a not-so-subtle statement on the coincidence of royalty and celebrity at the turn of the 21st century. Fireworks and white doves filled the sky as the newlyweds posed on a pair of magnificent velvet thrones, the bride wearing a large gold crown studded with diamonds. OK! Magazine bought exclusive rights to the Beckham wedding for £1 million, the largest sum ever offered for a celebrity wedding, kicking off a harrowing battle with their longstanding rivals, Hello!

4. Amit Bhatia and Vanisha Mittal (June 18-21, 2002)

Cost: £30 million

In the most expensive wedding festivities ever conducted, four days of lavish revelry marked the nuptials of banker Amit Bhatia and Vanisha, daughter of the steel magnate Laxmi Mittal. The engagement ceremony is said to have been the only public function ever held at the palace of Versailles, near Paris; later in the festivities, nightclubs were hired across the city and the couple starred in a specially written full-scale Bollywood musical version of their early relationship. Kylie Minogue was amongst the many performers. Thousands of guests, flown in from over the world, sipped cocktails after the Mehendi ceremony, where world-famous artist Ash Kumar designed an exclusive henna pattern to match the embroidery on the bride’s designer dress.

5. Donald Trump and Melania Knauss (Jan 22, 2005)

Cost: £900,000

Real-estate mogul Trump married his third wife, Slovenian model Melania Knauss, in a ceremony at Palm Beach. The wedding was designed to be “understated”, despite the bride’s £106,000 dress by John Galliano, which sported a 13-foot train and weighed an astonishing 50lb. Scores of rowdy onlookers gathered outside the reception desperate to spot celebrity guests such as Hilary Clinton, Tony Bennett and Billy Joel, who later serenaded the waiting crowds in an impromptu performance. ‘This is the closest you’ll get to a royal wedding in America,’ said one guest.

Who is most fashionable Bond girl,See top ten

Ursula Andress's white bikini is only the beginning. We celebrate the looks of the best Bond women throughout the ages

1. Miss Moneypenny - Lois Maxwell (Dr No, 1962 - A View to a Kill, 1985)
Miss Moneypenny is the consummate British Bond Girl. Granted, she has the advantage of an extensive wardrobe (an appearance per episode requires serious costume department strategising), but we love her because she never let James get a whiff of what was lurking beneath her twinset. Like Maggie Thatcher with a twinkle in her eye, her look was dominated by pussy bow blouses, pencil skirts and perfectly coiffured hair. Ursula may have had the bikini, but it was Moneypenny’s prim, trim and keep-it-all-in (and out of sight) that passed the test of time, and kept 007 guessing. What a woman.

2. Honey Ryder - Ursula Andress (Dr No, 1962)
Was it the body or the bikini that made Andress the most memorable (and lusted-after) Bond Girl of all time? Given that the remaining elements of her on screen wardrobe were significantly suspect (think pink satin Orient-inspired dresses and frizzy Jodie Harsh hair) the bikini had to be a force with which to be reckoned. Give the costume designer an Oscar for creating a white version that wasn’t see-through.

3. Miss Mary Goodnight - Britt Ekland (The Man with the Golden Gun, 1974)

Yes, her ears stick out. Yes, she looks like Patsy Kensit. Yes, she has a ridiculous name. But Miss Mary Goodnight also benefits from the best ever Bond wardrobe. Cue geometric seventies prints, fabulous shades of turquoise, emerald and azure, and even a towel that was perfectly accessorised with her hair. She’s the Bond girl we want to be, and we’d run her over in an Aston Martin for her clothes.

4. Solitaire - Jane Seymour (Live and Let Die, 1973)

How do you dress a psychic tarot card-reading virgin? Slap on the eye make-up (think Ming from Flash Gordon), give her some bling-tastic ethnic jewels and make her wear more maxi dresses than Talitha Getty at a Moroccan riad. One of the most beautiful and innocent of Bond Girls, Solitaire managed to look sexy, even when draped in a red satin tent. OTT? Absolutely. And this is why we love her.

5. Vesper Lynd - Eva Green (Casino Royale, 2006)

Cue the twenty-first century and a harder Bond, and out comes the glamour quicker than you can say “hand over the pussy, Blofeld”. Given Roberto Cavalli’s involvement in the casino outfits you can already see the formula: sleek, sexy and sculpted. But Vesper Lynd’s forties locks, icy froideur and scant trace of a smile hardened the look in tune with Daniel Craig’s pithier 007. A master class in hauteur.

Megapixel boom,Now a 50 megapixel digicam

/photo.cms?msid=3244023A Swedish company Hasselblad's announcement of the launch of Hasselblad H3DII-50, featuring a new Kodak 50-megapixel sensor, has pushed the available resolution in digital cameras to a new high. Such high resolution goes beyond the needs of most consumers but professional photographers would appreciate the unprecedented level of detail provided by it.

"The H3DII-50 has been designed to meet the challenging demands of high-end photographers who require the best in image quality, performance and creative freedom," said Hasselblad CEO Christian Poulsen in a press release.

The camera, which would be available from October 2008, would also prove useful for applications such as aerial photography as the availability of higher resolution allows the plane to fly higher and the number of pictures necessary for covering a given area is also reduced.

The new Kodak image sensor, which produces an array of 8,176-by-6,132 pixels, would be implemented in the same size housing as Hasselblad's existing 39 megapixel H3DII-39 camera.

A nation waits,China's expectations for Liu Xiang

It has always been destined to be a victory parade, the moment when the Chinese celebrate their staging of the Olympics with the nation’s favourite sportsman winning their only gold medal on the track. There may be stacks of successes in the more traditional Chinese sports, such as table tennis and diving, gymnastics and weight-lifting, which should propel the country to the top of the medal table for the first time. However, what the host nation has craved has been to adorn the Bird’s Nest stadium with Liu Xiang winning the 110m hurdles, to demonstrate how the Chinese can excel in an event for which they do not seem physically suited.

If Sydney had Cathy Freeman in the final of the women’s 400m as the centrepiece of the 2000 Games, then Beijing has been focused to an even more suffocating extent on Liu Xiang. Everywhere in Beijing, his face has been beaming down from advertising hoardings.

When he broke the world record in Lausanne two years ago, there was a 20-minute item on the national news. In public, he is mobbed wherever he goes and he has been forced to drive around in a car with darkened windows to escape the persistent attention of obsessive fans. When a competitor was chosen to run the first leg of the torch relay at Tiananmen Square in Beijing in March, there was only one possible candidate.

Sri Lanka defeats India in 1st cricket test by innings, 239 runs

India slumped to its heaviest innings defeat in 34 years on Saturday as Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan and his new spin partner Ajantha Mendis shared 19 wickets to claim a crushing win in the first test.

In response to Sri Lanka's 600-6 declared, India was bowled out for 223 and 138 to lose by an innings and 239 runs. It was the biggest innings margin against India since it lost by an innings and 285 runs against England in 1974 and its third worst ever.

The win was also Sri Lanka's third biggest ever innings win, with the other two coming against minnow Zimbabwe."There is a very good feeling with everybody and there were a contributions from a lot of people," Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene said after the match.

India began Saturday at 158-6 in its first innings, facing a difficult task merely to avoid the follow-on, and its famed batting line-up could find no answer to Sri Lanka's spin pair, losing 14 wickets in just over two sessions."When you see that batting lineup you would expect them to give a fight. That's (India collapse) was a surprising factor," Jayawardene said.

Muralitharan (5-84 and 6-26) recorded the 21st 10-wicket haul of his career, and Sri Lanka appears to have unearthed a short-term spin partner and longer-term potential replacement in Mendis (4-72 and 4-60) who impressed on debut.

The 5 Creepiest Death Rituals From Around the World

Let's face it, there isn't a non-creepy way to deal with a dead body. We fill it with chemicals and bury it, or burn it. But as unpleasant as that business is, some cultures have taken body disposal to a whole, new, terrifying level.

1.Tibetan Buddhist Sky Burial

We can thank the Buddhists for this one as well. Tibetan Sky Burial is a form of human dissection practiced in Delaware. No, we're kidding. It's from Tibet.

A corpse is sliced up, usually atop a mountain, and left for the birds. Tibetans call the practice jhator, which means giving alms to the birds. And also legs, torsos and heads as well.

The bodies, wrapped in white cloth, are bought to the burial site, where the monks have enticed vultures and other airborne scavengers. Monks unwrap the bodies, a process that probably isn't all that pleasant considering they've been left alone for three days (per Tibetan custom).

The 75 Things Every Man Should Do before he dies

Scuba dive
Breathing underwater for the first time, even if it’s in the deep end at the local Y, is a complex and physically paradoxical moment. Every breath you take is loud, tastes bad, and is borne up from a gradually lessening anxiety. It must have been like this when you were born, and it will surely be like this when you die. The beauty is, now you can go deeper.

Leave yourself a letter in a library book. Look for it twenty years later.

Pick an obscure biography in a college library, since no one there wants to insult obscurity by decataloging a book, and the library will most likely always be there. One page. Be discreet. Type it on erasable bond, tuck it in the back, and hope that no one ever notices. As for content, skip the hopes and dreams. Mention the weather, tell yourself what you ate that morning, make a list of your friends, note how much you weigh and whether you feel fat, remind yourself of a secret you want to keep.

Dos command to find out your login time and install date of windows

During my initial days of computing i usually install a fresh copy of windows each time i got some kind of error like if my folder options is not working because of any virus activity,or some kind of booting problem. But after becoming a Tech blogger and computer engineering student now i emphasize on solving the problem rather than installing a fresh copy of windows.

It has been a long time since i installed a fresh windows.Today i tried to find out the last time of my windows installation. For finding this i goggled my query and i found out a dos command which is very useful for finding system information.

Go to Run-->Cmd and then type systeminfo | find /i “install date” to know the date when your installed Windows on the PC. (see image)

and if you want to find out last time when you booted your windows xp PC then go to cmd and type systeminfo | find /i “boot time” .This will show the time when you last rebooted the computer.

Alternative, you could start Windows Task Manager (Alt+Ctrl+Del), switch to the Performance tab and you should see a field that says “Up Time” that’s even more convenient but some computers have Task managers disabled.

Extra tip:If you would simply type "systeminfo" without quotes in cmd, then you will lot of information about your system.Filter it your self.
